I got this last year, it arrived on my birthday. Shocker Rider came from the famous Tokusatsu show named Kamen Rider/Masked Rider, & this version is from Kamen Rider: The Next. The Next was a reboot movie from the show, there are 6 of them in both show & movie. In here I’m discussing The Next version of them, Shocker Riders are alternative Riders based on Kamen Rider Nigo(Hayato Ichimonji). They are mass produced as soldiers of Shocker, and are enhanced in terms of abilities and powers under nano-technology. Shocker Rider’s human form didn’t revealed in the TV show, but they’re revealed briefly in The Next during the meeting task. In there Shocker Rider’s actors looked ridiculously skinny… Okay, let’s straight to the review of the figure, in his S.H.Figuarts he is sealed with a standard gray colored box package, & he comes with a few accessories.
He got 6 interchangeable hand parts, & 2 scarves, overall that’s all he got. Shocker Rider was a standard S.H.Figuarts, so he don’t have much flashy accessories like other S.H.Figuarts. He was a 4th release of the S.H.Figuarts debut.
The figure is made from ABS(Acrylonitrile Butadine Styrene), & PVC(Polyvinyl Chloride). Bandai did a pretty cool job for creating S.H.Figuarts, they surely aiming at coexistence of movabillity, an ideal figure how it should be. The joints are really comprehensive enough, making them become the most outstanding action figure. From the looks himself Shocker Rider appears in a black suit with opened collar with bare neck, metallic bronze colored body armor, pair of a single stripes, gloves, boots, separate lower suit with belt, & shiny metallic yellow helmet like hopper. Unlike Ichigo, Shocker Rider has no shoulder pad & 2 colored stripes like Ichigo The Next, instead he’s simillar to Nigo. Since he’s based from Nigo… However, despite looked the same, they actually shares some differences that are pretty minor. Here, I’ll also tell you the difference & the simillarities between Ichigo & Nigo other than coloring wise.
Shocker Rider’s sculpt was pretty neat & it’s quite detailed, the shiny metallic yellow hopper like helmet is really eye-catching, the green eyes really suit for him. But some helmet sculpt has a little bug, but they’re pretty minor & apparently I’m not alone to have this problem. So I don’t bother much… Ichigo & Nigo The First shares the same helmet sculpt like Shocker Rider.
Shocker Rider’s body armor, boots, & gloves are also molded pretty awesome, each of them had a fascinating small details. A separate lower suits with belt was attached on his waist but it seems a bit odd to see it, they should have mold the whole suits & make a separate belt, other than that the belt is fine. In both side view, we get to see Shocker Rider has a gold colored stripes both his arms, & legs, also in his back he has 2 sideway stripes with a Shocker emblem in the center of his back between the stripes, pretty much the same like Nigo The First excluding The Next version & all Ichigo versions. & of course there’s a Bandai’s property on his lower back. & 1 unique again in the back view of his head, the lower back of his helmet there’s a molded hair. The hair was amusing somehow, but the details are quite incredible. The hair thing was meant to show him this is Kamen/Masked Rider in general. Shocker Rider’s body is exactly simillar to Nigo, but Nigo’s painting is more complex than Shocker Rider even Ichigo. Nigo had his buttons colored silver on his suit & his knee pad, whereas Ichigo has them too but missed on his back, while Shocker Rider was completely plain black/uncolored. Nigo(both versions) also has his own different sculpt on his separated lower suit. Where the lower suit is shorter than Shocker Rider & Ichigo. Shocker Rider’s lower suit is pretty simillar to Ichigo version with the exception of the belt color.
Now, for the small parts, he had 6 interchangeable hand parts. The one that attached to him is a fistful hand, the extras are outstreched palm, attached open palm like a chop, & attached splayed open palm like open hold. The hands themself was molded pretty nice, they even didn’t missed the Shocker emblem on the gloves like Nigo The First excluding The Next version & all Ichigo version.
The scarves contains 2, 1 is the standard version, & 2 is the wind blowing version for action. Shocker Rider’s head can be detached from his neck joint to insert his scarf. He surely must wear those scarf into his neck since he looks odd with only bare neck, & there is your Shocker Rider. His scarves shares the same sculpt like Ichigo The First or The Next, with the exception of the color. Shocker Rider is given a yellow colored scarf. On the other hand, Nigo(both versions) again has his own different sculpt for his scarves. Personally, what’s with the scarves? What was that for? Didn’t they just bugged you alot if opponent made it to grab & pull it? I really don’t get it, why Kamen Rider have to wear something ridiculous like this? I’d prefer him without scarves & got his bare neck covered with the collar.
Well, that’s all I guess, no further information since he’s a standard S.H.Figuarts. Now, back at me I’m not interested on The Next saga on the begining, since I only hunt Black saga riders. But after learning how great their design by watching the movie, I became dig into it. Shocker Rider was my 1st owned Kamen Rider: The Next saga, right now I’m currently looking for Ichigo The Next version, he caught my eyes. I was actually, searching for him on the start but some friend asked me to find Shocker Rider 1st, since he’s the rarest, more expensive than him, & most collectors bought 6 straightaway following the orders of the movie… & it was lucky for me to get 1. Personally I just don’t get it why must buy 6, they’re all the same, & there’s no even minor differences from them. I say thank God, otherwise I might end up following orders too. A friend of mine also suggested me to buy 6 but to tell the truth I definitely can’t afford it… However, it was lucky again for me to be only interested in photography so, I came up with the idea of creating my photo tricks, showing there are 6 or more of them. My last words S.H.Figuarts is definitely a choking hazard stuff since it contains a dangerous small parts, so be aware if you have a little kids around you. Overall, Shocker Rider became one of my favorite Kamen Rider villain after Shadow Moon. For the rating…
Pros: Bandai sure did a decent job on making S.H.Figuarts. It’s pretty simple but they’re pretty sturdy, some elements are flexible, & poseable figure. The details are awesome, & he can act variety pose whatever we wish. S.H.Figuarts is perfect for you who loves action figure, & tokusatsu figures. You won’t regret it if you buy this, besides being eye-catching, it’s also superb on posing him.
Cons: To exchange the hand parts was completely pain in the arse for me, yet when we pull the hand parts off, half of the ball joints sometimes also detached along with the hands from his arms. & his left thigh joint was flimsy when we try to pose him. Shocker Rider can’t move his head freely as his collar was made thick. & despite having same accessories like Ichigo, Nigo. Shocker Rider should have something different accessories like a weapon atleast, especially his Shocker Bomb. But yeah, that Shocker Bomb is way too small to be made…
Small Parts: 3/5
Accuracy sculpt: 5/5
