Well, this is it, another review of S.H.Figuarts from me, the character is an epic legend from the popular Tokusatsu & he’s marked to be a very iconic Rider Villain. Here comes Century King: SHADOW MOON ! He is a character who serves as the primary antagonist in the Kamen Rider Series installment Kamen Rider Black. In almost all of his appearances, he is voiced by Masaki Terasoma, including the 3D short film Kamen Rider World, the 40th anniversary film OOO, Den-O, All Riders: Let’s Go Kamen Riders, and the Kamen Rider/Super Sentai crossover film Kamen Rider × Super Sentai: Super Hero Taisen. In Kamen Rider SD, he is voiced by Kaneto Shiozawa. Nobuhiko, Shadow Moon’s human form, is played by Takahito Horiuchi. In one of Kamen Rider Decade Movie he was rewritten to be Nobuhiko Tsukikage, an alternate reality version of the original Shadow Moon of Kamen Rider BLACK. Unlike the original Nobuhiko, this Shadow Moon had no known relation to the alternate reality Minami Kotaro. Now, we go to the review, in his S.H.Figuarts Shadow Moon was packed into a shiny silver colored box. His box looked kinda special from my other Black series S.H.Figuart but if he comes with a standard gray colored box. He’ll looks plain simple, since the printed box has no different than most of other S.H.Figuarts. & more fact that he’s actually a standard release. Shadow Moon comes with a standard accessories like how he should be.
As you can see, he only got 2 pair interchangeable hand parts, & 3 weapons(Satan Saber, & Twin Sabers). Yeah, right….
This figure is made from ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadine Styrene) , Die Cast, POM(Particulate Organic Matter), & PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). As usual, Bandai’s fine work! A standard figure that incorporates the art of theme pursuing character expression through humanoid action. Shadow Moon appears in a silver colored armor suit, armored silver helmet, & armored black suit with some nice elements of Hopper feel such as elbow spikes & heel spurs. & this what made Shadow Moon special to most fans, especially those heel spurs tap sound! EPIC! The belt was also included to him containing his Green King Stone/Stone of the Moon.
Perhaps one of the best sculpted action figure ever, Shadow Moon was molded bloody marvelous. Especially the details of his head, it really amazed my eyes. But watch out for the die cast antennas ! Those thing can be dangerous if we careless… The other body armor were pretty neat although they looked simple. Bandai surely captured his image.
In both side view, Shadow Moon’s elbow spikes & heel spurs were clearly visible. The elbow spikes are soft rubber, we have nothing to worry being break if he falls back to the ground in some unwanted incident. The heel spurs, has a hinge so we can move them up & down easily. But be aware of those spiky hopper spurs, those thing are quite sharp enough, & watch your step while you move them since it’s easy to pop off. The back view of Shadow Moon was nothing fancy, so I have nothing to describe.
Shadow Moon has some element that can be detach easily, here we can see his shoulder armors, knee armors, & heel spurs(above…). The shoulder armor’s joint was patched under his side shoulders other than his archenemy S.H.Figuarts Black & Black RX that hinged ontop of their shoulders… This joints placement only make him can raise his hand with limit… The knee armor? Nothing special, just to tell you that thing can be detached from him, besides being small like shoulder armor. So watch yourself when you handle him, you might don’t wanna end up like me who look over on my room floor just for the missing parts, when it’s accidentally detached & fall. Well, not even Shadow Moon for sure.
The 1st weapon is a long single red colored sword with golden colored handler called Satan Saber, it’s his weapon from Kamen Rider Black & his Heisei era appearances. To make him holding this sword ain’t that easy compare to his other weapons since the lower sword’s is quite big for his hand hole, though we can still insert it. Satan Saber would become more badass if they also added the sheath like his R.A.H. (Real Action Heroes) & S.H.S. (Shouchaku Henshin Series) version, but in the show there’s no scene showing Shadow Moon using Satan Saber with the sheath, so it’s not really necessary I guess but I think it’s worth it if they added the sheath. The 2nd weapon is a pair of red swords with silver colored handlers called The Twin Sabers, from Kamen Rider Black RX. Each swords got a different height, the long one & the short one. Unlike Satan Saber, these two are user friendly when we insert them to his hands. All of those swords were really awesome made, the details was outstanding & it’s really fit to him. Shadow Moon looks more meaner when he use those. However, those parts were real sharp, so becareful when you use them. Keep them away from kids!
Hand accessories! The 1st one which already attached to him is a pair of fistful hands, 2nd one is a pair of grasping hand parts for holding his weapons, 3rd one is a pair of outstretched palm. That’s it. Grasping hands can also be used to ride Battle Hopper, unfortunately… I currently don’t have my own Battle Hopper, since it’s already expensive due to it’s Exclusive release. So I cannot afford to buy it, unless I got lucky to get the cheaper one someday… I’m sorry if you’re expecting my review to able to see him riding Battle Hopper. The outstretched palm? I think you know how to deal with them.
From all of the S.H.Figuarts that I own I’m actually too cautious on this, besides being rare & expensives his accessories & body parts are quite dangerous in my opinion. Well, it’s obvious I guess for a rookie like me… Okay, that’s how it’s done from me. One more thing from me Shadow Moon was my 3rd S.H.Figuarts after Black, & Black RX. I’m actually glad to have the all current Black saga characters now. All and all, I’m really satisfied to have him & he also became my favorite S.H.Figuarts after Black.
Pros: Whenever we pose Shadow Moon in some epic/action scenes, Shadow Moon always looks cool. I even wanted to have my own Shadow Moon suit, but it won’t be good for me though… Shadow Moon is a very well made action figure from Bandai so I’d recommend you to dig into this if you’re an avid fan of Black saga, or hunting a perfect sculpted action figure.
Cons: As usual changing the hand parts is still pain in the arse for me, this is even harder than changing Black & Black RX parts. It is the only thing that I really hate from S.H.Figuarts… On the other hand, when we compare between Black/Black RX hand parts. Shadow Moon’s hands looks more smaller than Black/Black RX, & this feels like his hands looks cute rather than being mean. & for the last, I don’t understand why they end up making the shoulder armor joints under his side shoulder, while in the original show his shoulder armor bounced exactly like Black/Black RX which hinged ontop of their shoulders…
