Okay, now another S.H.Figuarts to review! It’s going to be S.H.Figuarts Ichigo Sakurajima Ver. review. Exactly like in my previous review about Kamen Rider Ichigo, but… This Ichigo is the original design of Kamen Rider Ichigo-Nigo series on how he appeared in several episodes, he’s nicknamed as Sakurajima Ver. & only appearing in episode 40 till 52. In actual, Sakurajima is an active composite volcano (stratovolcano) and a former island in Kagoshima Prefecture in Kyūshū, Japan. He was strongly nicknamed due to his 1st appearance in episode 40, where he helped Kamen Rider Nigo in Sakurajima Island. Atleast, that’s what I know… Alright, I’ll go on to the S.H.Figuarts now, unlike most my previous S.H.Figuarts this Ichigo is sealed with a black colored box package with red carton paper as the background of the display products, & he comes up with a pretty standard accessories.
Ichigo comes with 2 variant separated scarves, Shocker Sword, Rider Punch FX, & 4 pair of hand accessories.
Ichigo was a 1st Kamen Rider to be exist in this world… & it’s obvious if you think his design is pretty ugly, obsolete, & old fashioned compare to his reboot versions(Ichigo THE FIRST/THE NEXT).. Bandai really created a nostalgic element on Ichigo, however… Since I know Ichigo-Nigo series in my late twenties, so the nostalgic element feels empty for me. Yeah, it’s just me who never witness that classics during my childhood. Despite having an old fashioned design, S.H.Figuarts Ichigo Sakurajima Ver. was released a few years after his reboot ver. Which means in the quality control wise, Ichigo Sakurajima has a latest updated articulations compare to his reboot ver. But, I have to dissagree on this because I was slightly dissapointed by his lacks of the upper bicep cut articulations. The coloring of Ichigo Sakurajima resembles to Ichigo THE NEXT Ver., of course THE NEXT Ver.’s color design was referenced from Sakurajima Ver. In their respective figure, Ichigo Sakurajima has no glossy painting on his entire suit & unlike my other S.H.Figuarts, Ichigo Sakurajima has no diecast material at all.
Ichigo Sakurajima’s helmet was definitely became a strong reference to his THE NEXT Ver. They didn’t even missed those blue shade dull green triangle on the back of his helmet. The red compound eyes are pretty shiny, the other nostalgic feels are on the back of his helmet which there’s a hair of the Hongo Takeshi much like in THE NEXT Ver. However, in my opinion the helmet of old Ichigo is a little oversized, so kinda feels he has a little Hydrocephalus… On the side of his helmet Ichigo has a gibbosity mold in front of his face, which painted shiny green in frontal looks, but the gibbosity mold was a little too long… Unlike his reboot counterpart, his antennas are now made to be separated & made from a hard material instead of molded soft material together between 2.. Frankly, the coloring is the only reason why I wanted him, other than that I don’t like him at all… Which is why, I hate Shin & Early Ver.
Like I’ve mentioned before, Ichigo Sakurajima Ver. was colored dark blue with shade of dull green, much like his THE NEXT Ver. Perhaps, Sakurajima is the only Ichigo version that I like most while I have zero interest on his Shin & his Early Ver. His overall sculpt suit feels a lot like a mere plain spandex, of course classic feels… For other details, Ichigo Sakurajima has no any single stripelines on the side of his arms & torso except that he has his own unpainted stripeline sculpt on his legs. The belt looked the same like his reboot versions but bigger & the belt isn’t movable like the reboot versions. The red scarf is too plain standard, nothing really special but ugly… However, in the reboot versions Ichigo’s neck collar was opened, exposing his bare neck. While the original versions the collar was covered by his scarf, so no bare neck. Wait, in the earlier I said I was slightly dissapointed by him? Yes! Ichigo Sakurajima has no articulations on his upper bicep cut, so he couldn’t twist his arms to the chest like doing a crossed arms pose like this.
He is included 2 optional separated scarves, 1 is the standard version, & 2 is the wind blowing version for action. Pretty much the same use like his reboot counterpart, except that we don’t have to pluck off his head anymore since we just only have to attach the gibbosity joint to the separated scarves hole. It was a pain to attach this, I must admit… The scarves themself didn’t look better than the reboot version in my opinion… On the contrary, I hate his scarf but without it he seems like having a giraffe neck… One thing that I’ve always wondering again, why Kamen Rider must wear scarves? The answer is I never felt that classics.
Ichigo Sakurajima also comes up with his own trademark weapon during his action… Shocker Sword!! WAIT?! Actually, it wasn’t his own sword! But he borrowed from a Shocker Grunt or Shocker Kaijin during his action, so in actual Ichigo has no weapon of his own… The Sculpt of the Shocker Bird was nice but other than that, meh… Like his design, the sword also feels plain nothing good for me… To use this sword you’ll have to use his holding hand parts (picture above), I have to admit Ichigo could be more cool with that sword if I pose him more intense… Sorry if you feel bored with this photoshoots….
Don’t forget this lifeless FX!! XD Ichigo Sakurajima Ver. was provided this lifeless FX made! Yeah, the sculpt-wise & everything looked intense… But, I wouldn’t mind if they didn’t provide this, because I’d prefer digitalized version than this…
Finally, Ichigo’s hand accessories! What have we here? A pair of holding hands for his Shocker Sword, Rider chop hands, Henshin pose hands, & outstreched palm. Holding hands can be useful for him to hold Cyclone THE FIRST’s handlebar, but I’m not gonna use it because they didn’t looked good for me… & other reviewers already did that, so if you want to see him riding Cyclone THE FIRST, go find another review. I don’t see a big difference between Rider chop & Henshin pose hands, except the thumbs, & no no! I’m not going to create the original Henshin pose with that hands, It’s awfully boring for me because I’ve seen a lot of people already did that on their Ichigos & I personally thought mine one won’t be as good as they did. So, I’m making my own Henshin pose, & I used the outstreched palm for the pose. However, since I couldn’t twist Ichigo’s shoulder (lacks on the upper bicep cut articulations), my original pose looks like he’s not doing his Henshin properly… The sculpt of his hands are too plain simple, & it’s too boring to see…
Okey dokey… A little history why I’m tempted on this was, after I saw this guy’s prototype I instantly over excited & preordered him, because the darker tone coloring suits really well for my eyes. Also, the real reason isn’t just that, but I’ve always wanted to create a scene where he pose together along with his reboot version Kamen Rider Ichigo THE NEXT. Both of their coloring wise are strongly look alike, & creating those scene feels like a moment of Old VS New. Atleast, that’s what I saw on them… But, too bad, it didn’t helped me alot on admiring his design, aside his coloring he’s plain nothing & I don’t like him at all. Recommended? Might be for Kamen Rider fans but I was totally dissapointed by the lacks of his upper bicep cut articulations, that I couldn’t twist his arms for crossed arms scene… However, besides of that this Ichigo feels solid compare to my other S.H.Figuarts in some matters. But, since he lacks on that articulations, I’d still prefer to my old S.H.Figuarts for articulation wise. One thing, I was actually waited for his sidekick Nigo Early Ver., perhaps the only Nigo color version that I like most among all versions. Unfortunately, Bandai made a very worst decision on making him to be an Exclusive release, & it is revealed this Nigo will only had interchangeable hand accessories as his option parts. So… I was so upset on that news, & to notice that my Ichigo Sakurajima won’t be having his partner Nigo…
Pros: The sculpt work of him are pretty solid I have to say, his looks feels really accurate compare to my other S.H.Figuarts.. Even the sculpt suits feels pretty convincing it’s like looking an old fashioned spandex, Bandai really made him pretty intense & the classic image of him are tremendously revealed. The proportions also looked more accurate for a human body except his head, unlike my other S.H.Figuarts that the design still feels like a mere toy & their proportions feels awkward.
Cons: Like my other S.H.Figuarts review, I really2 hate on swapping those accessories because they’re not becoming easy to use from time to time but more painful for my fingers… Also, I was totally dissapointed by the lacks of articulations on his upper bicep cut, that I couldn’t twist his arms to his chest for crossed arms scene. if he’s able to do that, my only complains would be only on swapping parts… Because, everything else feels solid….
Small Parts: 4/5
Accuracy sculpt: 5/5
And so… Masked Rider 1 (Sakurajima Ver.) Wins!!
