Again!! My 2nd owned sentai S.H.Figuarts collection! Here comes Tyranno Ranger from the famous Sentai show of Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger!! Featuring Yamato Tribe Prince Geki, the leader of the Zyurangers, and Burai’s little brother. He is the known as the “Warrior of Justice”. That’s according from the show… We need to notice too that there are also 2 versions of S.H.Figuarts Tyranno Ranger which is the original Japanese & US Market Ver. (for sure it was also labelled with the American adaptations franchise) Mine one is the original Japanese. In this version Tyranno Ranger has a overall red colored box with a silver colored like inner tray paper for the background of the figure showcase, sounds pretty plain, isn’t it? But, he comes up with pretty much nice accessories.
He comes with 3 weapons (2 of them got a variable form like how in the show works), 4 pair of hand accessories, & bonus parts of Powerful Ranger from Japanese version.
Tyranno Ranger is the 17th Red Sentai Ranger, he wore a red outfit with a white diamond shaped motives on his upper body, neck, belt, boots, & gloves. Each boots & gloves got a red colored diamond shaped motives, pretty much different compare to Dragon Ranger. He also got his white colored Ranger Stick/Gun/Sword’s holster, but it looks too small for me… So far, like Dragon Ranger this is the best Tyranno Ranger figure ever made. Very classics, Tyranno Ranger is my favorite one when I was a child. S.H.Figuarts Tyranno Ranger was released in 2013 a month after his brother was released… & in the quality control wise, he also got the latest articulation points. Unlike Dragon Ranger who dons the Dragon Armor, Tyranno Ranger can move more vast & even twist his upper bicep a bit (though there’s no upper bicep cut). Much like his brother he didn’t have a diecast material at all, so he feels light.
Like his brother, Tyranno Ranger’s helmet sculpt also got a strong resemblance to his image in the Sentai show counterpart. But, I think he looks a little better than his brother. The details are always been awesome, another solid work from Bandai… However, the sculpt of his mouth plate is made a little different than Dragon Ranger had & it doesn’t looked really accurate to the show compare to his brother… Unfortunately, mine one got a little misspaint on the right side of his mouth plate… Yeah, this is just me who had a little badluck, so you won’t have to be worry on getting your one, except if you suffer more worse than mine one. Again, they also missed is the details of a helmet locker on the both sides of the helmet. But, who would care about that… For me, it looks weird if there’s a helmet locker… Like Dragon Ranger, When I first saw this prototype last year ago, I instantly interested & eager to get him. Also, it’s kinda odd from Bandai that they released Dragon Ranger earlier than him, actually the 1st prototype revealed was Tyranno Ranger.
Compare to his brother, Tyranno Ranger has no Dragon Armor… Not in this version apparently. So, this Tyranno Ranger’s articulations can works more vast than Dragon Ranger, we can create many action scenes more intense. However, I have to agree that in sort of looks , Tyranno Ranger’s design feels plain than his brother. As he doesn’t have something that was quite eye catching for us to see, except his helmet & Dino Buckler. Despite being the leader of the Zyurangers, he along with his 4 partner lost popularity than Dragon Ranger due to his eye catching design accessories (Dragon Armor) & what people thought he’s badass & a loner. Much like his brother, Dino Buckler’s sculpt is made pretty accurate to how it looks on the show minus the font of “Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger” except that it was painted silver & the coin symbol is a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The boots sculpt shows some fold details on his lower legs, other details is on his crotch & ass to upper body has a single line mold. His ass also had a weird circular mold just like Dragon Ranger & more strange there’s another on his back, I don’t recall myself that Tyranno Ranger has this in the show, not even in the prototype he had that… Also, the Ranger Ranger Stick/Gun/Sword’s pocket has an articulations that allow us rotate the pocket to create some appropriate action scenes & it’s removable, much like Dragon Ranger’s black colored Zyusouken sheath. His articulations points are pretty standard to the latest S.H.Figuarts, but unlike Dragon Ranger which has a chestplate that blocking his arm’s articulations, I can still twist Tyranno Ranger’s arms & I can still able to do the crossed arms pose. Again, like his brother the articulations of his shoulder are quite annoying, because the shoulder pad like feels too loose somehow. What scared me out is, I’m afraid I’ll somehow break those shoulder thing.
I have nothing to say much but, he got the exact working articulations as his brother when he’s armorless.
Here ya’ go! The mighty Ryuugekiken, Ranger Stick/Gun/Sword, Thunder Slinger, & Ranger Slinger!! Personally, for me… Despite Tyranno having a plain looking design, these parts are very worthy accessories for him. With this accessories we can create many scenes from Tyranno Ranger’s respective scenes in the show.. Ryuugekiken’s detail is beyond too outstanding to see, surprisingly they didn’t even miss the details of Tyrannosaurus Rex symbol on it. Apparently Bandai decided to create Ranger Stick/Gun/Sword’s form independently, instead of being a single weapon that we can assemble into their respective forms. Of course, it would be too small & hard for us to assemble that small parts. Same goes to Thunder Slinger, they also created an independent Ranger Slinger (a combined form between Ranger Gun with Thunder Slinger). Bandai only included 1 Thunder Slinger part, but they could have actually make another form for Thunder Slinger independently. Like the part where the slinger is being pull off like how we saw in the show where the Zyurangers pull the slinger to shoot, & the one that still pre-assembled. But, they somehow missed this part.. Ranger Stick mostly remains in his white sheath, but there are some scenes too that involving him using those during Babel Attack.. But, if you want to do it you’ll have to pose it with the rest of the team (Mammoth/Tricera/Tiger/Ptera Ranger) excluding Dragon Ranger, since he doesn’t have Ranger Stick/Gun/Sword part. Is it just me, but I felt like Ranger Stick/Gun/Sword are way too small for his hands….
Due to his variable weapon accessories, most of his extra hand parts are for holding his respective weapon parts. Like Dragon Ranger, out from the box itself he already comes up with a fistful hand parts attached to his wrists, the extras are pair of open splayed 2 fingers, Holding hands for Ryuugekiken, Holding hands for Ranger Stick/Sword, & Holding hands for Thunder Slinger/Ranger Gun/Ranger Slinger. Open splayed 2 fingers is a very iconic style from Tyranno Ranger’s hands during his iconic choreographic style “Tyranno Ranger! Geki!!”, this hands are strongly referenced from Tyrannosaurus Rex’s tiny hands having only 2 fingers. They also can be used for Thunder Slinger’s scenes. The rest… I bet you know from what I mentioned before & the photos says it all. But, I was expecting Tyranno Ranger would came up with atleast open wide palm for his calling upon his Shoguzyu (Guardian Beast) also, seems pretty boring for only holding weapons although I had alot of fun… However, since Tyranno Ranger’s hand parts shares the same mold with Dragon Ranger, I can just use Dragon Ranger’s outstreched palm, although it’s not really perfect to use because it’s not really open wide palm… Also, with those shared hand mold, we can also create a scenes where Tyranno Ranger plays the Zyusouken like his brother did.
Like Big Brother, like Little Brother… Only in the original Japanese version, Tyranno Ranger is given a bonus parts for Powerful Ranger feature. The parts contains alternate neck & alternate belt, shows a painted American flag on them. This accessories was meant to create a scene from the episode 5 of Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger Season 2, where he along with Dragon Ranger acted like stereotypical American alpha male bullies. Well, I don’t like this at all so, I don’t use this more often although it’s fun to use for trolling. To change them, all you have to do is pluck out his head 1st. Then followed by his original white neck & insert the Powerful Ranger neck one. Same goes to the belt, you have to pluck out his waist joint & replace his original white belt to Powerful Ranger ones. Also, you will have to replace the Ranger Stick/Gun/Sword’s pocket into the Powerful Ranger’s belt. Pretty weird when I use the neck, because Tyranno seems to be having a long neck (though, I tried to push them in more deeper but it has no effect). Anyway, from size comparison between Dragon Ranger, Tyranno Ranger was somehow looks taller than his brother… Probably, it’s because of the long neck looks….
COMPARISON BETWEEN THE US MARKET VER.
Yeah, much like Dragon Ranger there are 2 versions of S.H.Figuarts Tyranno Ranger also which is Original Japanese & US Market Ver. The US Market was given their own box labelled with the American adaptations franchise. & It says in a different name instead of Tyranno Ranger, of course they used their own American counterpart’s name… However, the frontal box was slightly more fashionable I must say, it was colored silver added with some fx motives on it. The inner tray paper was colored red added with Americanized series logo on it, but somehow It looks reversable because the original Japanese had it oppositely. (red colored frontal box with a plain silver colored inner tray paper) But, the back view was overally red like how in the original Japanese looks but more plain & minus the Powerful Ranger box art. Actual contents has no different at all except in US Market version, Powerful Ranger parts are not given due to the Bluefin doesn’t have the rights to Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger franchise. Well, I might dislike Powerful Ranger parts, but it’s still a little better additions like Dragon Ranger was… If I ever got the US Market one, then I won’t be discussing Powerful Ranger parts in this review. Again, this doesn’t mean I’m going to ask you to get the Original Ver. better, I have to admit that the adaptations got a well designed box although you’ll only missing those extra neck & belt part, nothing else. & to know that, exchanging those parts was pain in the arse for me.
Ah, yes… Since I finally managed to take off Dragon Ranger’s chestplate, I tried to make Tyranno wear this as well.. & the armor works perfectly too. Seriously, making unremovable chestplate was a total letdown, it’d be far better to make the chestplate being cast off as well… However, this Armed Tyranno still minus his golden armbands, like I said on Dragon Ranger‘s review, Dragon Ranger’s armbands were molded from his arms, so there’s no chance for us to take off the armbands. I think it’s pretty obvious reasoning why they didn’t make the chestplate being cast off. However… Removable or not, atleast I can still do the job on those armbands.
Well, it’s an easy piece of edits afterall… I wouldn’t actually need the upcoming Armed Tyranno, though… But, since Tyranno Ranger is my favorite, I couldn’t resist to pass it… Well, enough on Armed Tyranno, now… We’ll talk Dragon Ranger armorless feature!
In the episodes of “A Mystery!? The Attacking Beast Knight God”. Where Burai lend his chestplate, Geki also lend his Ryuugekiken sword to Burai to distract King Brachion’s attacks while Geki takes the chest of Thunder Slinger. We get to see that Armorless Dragon Ranger with armbands on, attacks King Brachion with a combined Ryuugekiken & Zyusouken. Well, atleast the unremovable golden armbands was still useful to recreate that scenes.
For me Tyranno Ranger’s characteristic is the most epic ones compare the others because he is the leader of the Zyurangers, also his strong relationship between Dragon Ranger as his only brother made his character became more intense. On the contrary, Burai might be badass & a loner, but he doesn’t appeared much than Geki. So, if I have to choose which character that should be the most popular, then it’s Tyranno Ranger, but design wise, Dragon Ranger is the most eye catching one… Tyranno Ranger became my 2nd favorite S.H.Figuarts sentai collections! & another recommended S.H.Figuarts, because he almost looked accurate to his show counterpart. If you’re looking for a decent Tyranno Ranger figure, then this is your best choice! Although, I’m still a little dissapointed. You see photos above, very epic scenes, right? If you watch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, then which MMPR episodes that has this scenes? The answer is there’s no such thing of this epic scenes in MMPR… Only in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, & the original Red Ranger is actually Geki, not Jason Lee Scott or Rocky Desantos.
Pros: Loved the sculpt work of Tyranno Ranger very much, he strongly looked accurate to his Sentai show counterpart.. Bandai did another solid work. I really like how they made the weapons accessories, so bloody marvelous!! Also, thank goodness that both Tyranno & Dragon Ranger shares the same hand mold, so I can create many variable pose for them..
Cons: As usual I hate swapping those hand accessories same goes to Powerful Ranger parts but, much like Dragon Ranger swapping Tyranno’s hand parts ain’t painful like my other S.H.Figuarts. The lacks of articulations on his upper bicep cut, that I couldn’t do a proper crossed arms pose.
Small Parts: 4/5
Accuracy sculpt: 4/5
