Okay, another SHF Sentai review again on the go. Frankly, this figure was my 1st owned S.H.Figuarts Exclusive collection & the figure is Kibaranger from Sentai show of Gosei Sentai Dairanger!! Featuring Kou Hoshinsei is Kibaranger of the Dairangers. He is a 9 years old who manages to extract Yufang’s Byakkoshinken. The youngest and shortest of the Rangers in the entire Sentai series, being only 9 years old and of the expected height at that age when he was chosen to be a Ranger. There he goes in the show… Much like Dragon & Tyranno Ranger, there also 2 versions of S.H.Figuarts Kibaranger which is the original Japanese & US Market Ver. (labelled with the American adaptations franchise) Mine one is the original Japanese. Kibaranger was released as an exclusive release, included with brown box & inside the brown box he has overall white colored box with a gold-like colored fonts & tiger motives & shade of dark gray. Unlike, my other SHF collections his box is windowless, means that we couldn’t get to see the contents from the box. Meh, very dissapointing layout… Very plain & yet lame I must say… & he comes up with a very few accessories.
There he goes… 1 weapon of ByakkoShinken part with extra variant blade part, 2 option hand parts, & bonus parts of A-kibaranger armor plate from Japanese version.
Kou is the first Sentai Hero to be a child, he’s also the only child Sentai Warrior to be under 10 years old while part of an active team. He’s wearing white pearl-ish colored outfit overally. His trademark armor is comprised of a shiny golden chestplate with matte black coloring and 4 black & golden wrist bands on his respective arms & legs. & don’t miss his golden belt & Byakkoshinken’s holster… It was a pretty decent figure so far compare to any other KibaRanger toys/figures. Again, it’s a classics that I will never forget. S.H.Figuarts Kibaranger was released in 2013 & he got the exact articulation points like my SHF Zyurangers. Fortunately, his armor isn’t a big burden like Dragon Ranger for raising his shoulder articulations higher. However, I still couldn’t rotate it 360 degrees. Again, the figure doesn’t have a diecast material at all, so he’s pretty light to hold.
Kibaranger’s helmet sculpt also bear a strong simillarities to his Sentai show counterpart. The details looks really convincing especially the painting of his golden white tiger face, the feel of the real helmet of Kibaranger looked so intense… Again, they missed is the details of a helmet locker on the both sides of the helmet. Yeah, I don’t care… Bandai still did their job very awesome on this… Much like Dragon & Tyranno, I instantly interested & eager to get him after I saw the prototype. Some says, Kibaranger’s head was incredibly big compare to his body. Yes, I was slightly agree with that, but I strongly dissagree who said the prototype looked different compare to actual contents. For me, the prototype looked exactly like the actual contents.
To think like Dragon Ranger himself, one of the reason why Kibaranger was so popular is that his accessories thing on his design, such as his trademark armor being very iconic for a 6th rangers design. However, I’m not talking about the character himself in Dairanger because I have to admit Kou is a perverted ass hole in the show, I bet this is why his popularity was overshadowed by the US adaptations. Because, in the US adaptations Kibaranger was played by the actor who previously played as Dragon Ranger. Unlike Dragon Ranger, his armor is pointless to be removed because it’s molded to his chest… So, I strongly recommend don’t make your brain think about removing. If you insist then feel free to be crazy with this one, you instead just ruining the value quality of the figure, especially to know he’s an exclusive release. But, what’s the point on removing? He’ll looked plain ugly without it… The armor has a very nice details on it, especially his Kibaranger logo plate… But, I have to say his design isn’t that awe inspiring like Zyurangers, because he’s way too plain looking judging by his entire white outfit. His wrists bands are very well sculpted but looked pretty common like his other toys/figures. I think his armor are the only advantage to make him looked more badass.. Just imagine if he didn’t wear those armor, I bet he’ll looked very plain boring. Apparently, to make him looked much more eye-catching, Bandai added his white spandex with a pearl-like coloring, making him looked pretty shiny. The detail on the center of his belt is pretty nice but just simple for me, I think I prefer Dragon Ranger better than Kibaranger… Like Zyurangers, his spandex fabric details looked pretty much the same, for example his boot details on his lower legs. However, the fabric details on his arms looked very different than my Zyurangers, Kibaranger’s arms felt more folded rather than showing muscles like how Zyurangers. The Byakkoshinken’s holster has an articulations that allow us rotate the holster to create some appropriate action scenes, & it’s removable. Though, I never try it… Because, he has no extra belt like Dragon & Tyranno had. His articulations points are pretty standard to other S.H.Figuarts, except those missing upper bicep cut articulations. But I can still twist his arms & still able to crossed his arms but, I couldn’t able to recreate a crossed arms pose. Again, like my Zyurangers the articulations of his shoulder are still annoying.
Fortunately, his shoulder armor was given a hinge joint to make him raise his shoulder articulations more vast. However, it’s still annoys me because the material is made hard rather than being flexible. He might be able to raise his arms more widely, but the cut on his lower shoulder armor is very2 bugging. Whenever I raise his arms frontally, the lower cut couldn’t be bent down. & because of this, I couldn’t even rotate his arms frontally in 360 degrees. So, the armor is still pretty in the way for me…
Kibaranger got the exact working articulations as my SHF Zyurangers except those hinge jointed shoulder armor pad made him looks very ugly.
One & the only weapon part he had, Byakkoshinken! An enchanted talking saber Grandmaster Yufang placed within a stone until the one chosen to wield it arrives. Byakkoshinken was provided with 2 variant blades for it’s handler, short & long form. To change the blades you just simply pluck out the handler from it’s blades. Byakkoshinken can be attached into his grasping hand part or can be inserted into his sheath, to do this you’ll have to insert the lower blades under his pocket & reattach the handler on the upper side of the sheath. The details on Byakkoshinken’s handler (tiger shaped head) was pretty outstanding, though they can do better than that… Like Dragon Ranger’s case, I missed the Won Tiger figure/toy for the summoning Mythical Chi Beast scene… T_T
Okay… Option hand parts! As usual from the box he comes up with a fistful hand parts, the extras are only 1 grasping right hand & 1 open splayed left hand. Well, talk about exclusive stuff, so does the limited accessories. Oh, come on Bandai! They could atleast add 2 pair for each of them & also add his peace sign hand from the show… Oh, well… It can’t be help then… The grasping hand is indeed for grabbing the Byakkoshinken saber, & perhaps open splayed hand was meant for his Kiryoku scenes. That’s just funny as hell why did they included only 1 for each hands, in the show I once saw Kibaranger actually uses his right hand for Kiryoku attack. Very seldom to see him using his left hand, & if they included 2 open splayed hands we can atleast create his iconic tiger stance during the battle. Well, frankly a peace sign hands is pretty necessary to be included since he always seen showing peace sign hand in the show. His hand sculpt actually shares the same sculpt as my Zyurangers hand sculpt, so can we use their hands instead? Well, you can actually… But, since Kibaranger was overally got a shiny pearl colored hands like his outfit… Sharing with Zyuranger’s option hands will make his hands looked somehow odd when we see them directly, because my Zyuranger’s option hands are molded plain white. But, I guess in photoshoot they can be tricky enough to tell the differences.
Again, only in the original Japanese version, Kibaranger is given a bonus parts for A-kibaranger feature. The part contains alternate armor plate part for his armor, sculpted with Akibaranger logo. This accessories was meant to create a scene from the episode 2 & 3 of Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger Season 2, due the actions caused by General Tsu, the Akibarangers were made the 17th Super Sentai in place of the Dairangers. As a result, reality is rewritten to have Kibaranger be one of the two secondary Sentai heroes to be added in Gosei Sentai Akibaranger. However, the show’s unpopularity resulted in its cancelation after 13 episodes with Kibaranger vowing revenge for never appearing on TV. The same like Dragon & Tyranno Ranger, I don’t like this at all because it ruined his originality. But, it could be fun for creating a funny stuff… To change them, all you have to do is simply push the original plate of Kibaranger logo from down to pop out the plate. Then insert the A-kibaranger plate one.
COMPARISON BETWEEN THE US MARKET VER.
Yes, just like Dragon, & Tyranno Ranger there’s also 2 versions of S.H.Figuarts Kibaranger which is Original Japanese & US Market Ver. The US Market was given their own box labelled with the American adaptations franchise. & It says in a different name instead of Kibaranger, of course they used their own American counterpart’s name… Much like Dragon Ranger, the frontal box was colored bronze added with some fx motives on it. The inner tray paper was colored plain gray, while the original one doesn’t have inner tray paper due to their windowless box. The back view also pretty much the same like Dragon & Tyranno Ranger but colored gray with shade of black & minus the Akibaranger feature box art. In overall, the box is very different than the original one since Kibaranger is a different sentai series. Actual contents has no different at all except in US Market version, Akibaranger’s armor plate part are not given due to the Bluefin doesn’t have the rights to Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger franchise. Well, it might a pretty weird extras but, it’s better than having only 1 weapon with 2 variant blade & 2 interchangeable hands… So, I’m atleast abit happy with the Japanese one. If I ever got the US Market one, then I won’t be discussing Akibaranger armor plate part in this review. But, in US Market Ver. Kibaranger is a standard release so he should be cheaper than the original one & the good thing is there might be a chance to be reissued, maybe…
Kibaranger appeared to be shorter than Tyranno & Dragon Ranger, I think Bandai still faithfully give him short body-like for him. So, we know that Kibaranger was originally meant to be Kou Hoshinsei, not the US counterpart. However… Even Dragon Ranger was slightly shorter than Tyranno Ranger, funny that older brother appeared to be shorter than younger brother… Well, I think some people will be disappointed on how Kibaranger looks in this photos. Especially to know how shorty he is, for a US version fanboy I can understand why but, it’s not a big differences you can see, his height was actually unnoticeable… However, some people believed that Kiba Ranger US version is taller, & many of them wanted to get US Market one better than the Original. Unfortunately, this is false… Take a good look here:
A friend of mine from US owned the US Market Ver., & he told me that their height are exactly the same as the Original counterpart. So, don’t bother yourself buying both versions just for a false thought. & get a grip there, atleast he’s still taller than Ptera Ranger & other female sentais, so it’s not a big deal… & he’s not that short as his original counterpart actually… In Dairanger series, Kiba Ranger appeared to be a kid size.
Well, Kibaranger was one of my favorite 6th Ranger, honestly I only like his design.. Actually, this can be a recommended S.H.Figuarts, because he feels pretty solid so far & looked very accurate to his show counterpart. Unfortunately, the limited option parts bugged me alot to consider this as a recommended to have. This is a decent Kibaranger figure you must have, but you’ll have to accept the limitations of his option parts. But, if you’re looking for the US Market Ver. then you should begrateful, that he’s a regular release so he’s cheaper than the Original Japanese Ver. But there’s no Akibaranger feature part, so the option parts are way more limited than the original ones. Well-well, I used to be very hyped on this but for some reason, I feel so so on after I got this.. Maybe it’s because of the limitations of his option parts. Also, being an exclusive release doesn’t bother me actually… The advantage of being exclusive release is there’s no worries for us to face a cut order, however… The ready stock price can be double expensive than the PO price. So, if you want to get an exclusive stuff, then you better take a PO while you can still get them in a cheap price. By the way, it appears that my Dragon Ranger review got alot of viewers compare to my other reviews, since the review is almost on the 1st list record. I guess the popularity of the sentai copycat legend Tommy Oliver was the main reason why Dragon Ranger gets more visitors. Dunno, I think my Kibaranger review will be also get step ahead to my other reviews, like Dragon Ranger has now & I think most of the viewers were a PR fanboys, maybe?
Pros: This is actually another solid work from Bandai, Kibaranger appeared to be very faithfully accurate to his Sentai counterpart.. I love the overall coloring of him, especially his shiny pearl like coloring.
Cons: I Still hate swapping those hand accessories but it’s much easier just like my Zyuranger’s collection. The limited arm’s movement due to the cut on his lower shoulder armor. Whenever I raise his arms frontally, the lower cut couldn’t be bent down. Because they were made from a hard plastic, so the armor is still pretty in the way for me…. Lastly, perhaps this is only me, my Kibaranger’s right crotch articulations came to be a bit slipper/loose to move. Coincidentally, having the same problem like my Dragon Ranger figure.
