Alright… Can’t believe it I’m going to review this actually worthless downgraded trash but, thanks to my proudful childhood memories, I had to own & now review it. Here’s S.H.Figuarts ShadowMoon Downgraded Ver… I mean Renewal Ver. review!! Firstly, Century King Shadow Moon is a character who serves as the primary antagonist in the Kamen Rider Series installment Kamen Rider BLACK and Kamen Rider BLACK RX. Originally known as Nobuhiko Akizuki, Kotaro’s step brother. To the review, ShadowMoon Renewal Ver. is a regular release (like the old ver.) & much like the other BLACK Renewal series, the box was colored gray to dark-ish & there’s an FX motives on it. It looks kinda identical to Bio Rider but, it’s slightly darker & has shiny green colored fonts. While the old one’s box was colored clear shiny silver like a mirror & the box art showcase has his real life photos of the stunt actor instead of their respective figure photo art. The lame part number o1 is ShadowMoon Renewal comes up with the exact accessories from his old version.
There you go, 4 hands, Satan Saber, & Twin Sabers.
Unlike the predecessor renewal release, ShadowMoon Renewal wasn’t actually a special release for me. Because I had the old one that actually looks closely identical. The major changes are his bulky chest, neck, crotch, helmet, shoes, paintjob, & several joints. Other than that, everything looks the same… ShadowMoon got no fabric details, because his outfit was designed to be more robotic feels like Robo Rider. His outfit was entirely colored silver on the armor & some black for his undershirt & unlike the old one, the glossy silver painting of Shadowmoon looks much more cleaner & shiny but, the painting was fragile on his thighs & he didn’t have any diecast material.
Well… The helmet atleast made to be more faithful to the show, although there are still a slight inaccuracy. But, mostly are very minor to see so, people won’t bother it much. ShadowMoon’s mouth/jaw now was painted shiny black but, there’s a little minor misspaint on the center of his nose/mouth. Compound eyes looks much darker & larger than the old one, & painting is more clean. The antennas also got mold changes on the center part/forhead but, it was an odd changes because they actually made them not truly faithful to the show anymore. His forhead circular now sculpted slightly holey than the old one but, what bothers me alot is… Unlike the old one, his neck now is freaking small & short!! But, atleast painted darker than the old one. Tsk… This Renewal head & neck displeased me so much somehow, because I feel like they also rather made him a little downgraded….
Of course… He got bulkier body than the old one, that’s what made him good for most people & his shoes also got major changes, now made to be more square & robotic feels. Because, in his very first appearance & in Decade movie, ShadowMoon uses square shoes like that. However, atleast for me… The square looks made them more like a mere toy instead of being robotic feels & there’s no sculpted shoe soles underneath the feet, which lacked the details. If you ask me, this is kinda downgraded… His Kingstone belt was actually got the same mold but, there’s a slight paint differences. Other than that, his overall looks still the same like the old one, especially on the legs, arms (including the soft material hopper spikes), shoulder pads, hinge jointed hopper spikes on the shoes, & hands. Great reusing, just great….
Definitely… It wouldn’t be a ShadowMoon without his Satan Saber & Twin Sabers but, for goodness sake… This is the exact accessories from the old one, there’s no improvement at all as far as I see. For a Renewal they should atleast improve the painting on them. Especially on the Twin Sabers, in the show the handlers are black colored & the blade got white lining on the center. Yeah, right… Another lame part for a Renewal but, it doesn’t matter anymore now… Because, you can just repaint them like this:
Yup, Twin Sabers looks perfectly accurate to the show! Thanks to Cluster Model Kit for the Twin Sabers repaint. With this repaint, atleast there’s a differences between the old one.
ShadowMoon was included with 3 pair hand accessories which is fistful hands from the one that already attached, the extras are pair of open splayed hands, & a pair grasping hands for holding Satan Saber & Twin Sabers. Well, guess you know what to do with this & yes, another identical part like the old one had… ShadowMoon needs more hands, atleast the pointy finger for taunting BLACK & battle stances gesture like this.
Shame that he didn’t included with this, if he’s given I’ll definitely approve this ShadowMoon to be more worth to have.
COMPARISON BETWEEN THE OLD VERSION
In both photos ShadowMoon Renewal appeared to be very slightly shorter than Black Renewal & even the Old version. Ironically the old BLACK & RX ones appeared to be shorter than their Renewal counterpart as in my BLACK & RX review. By this pic some people might mistakenly think they’re the exact product but, you can actually tell the differences if you take a good look on them.
Yeah, this is what made them different, Renewal got bigger chest & waists. The KingStone got the same mold, except there’s a slight differences on the green circular near the KingStone.
While the Old one got standard looking shoes, the Renewal one was given with a newly mold of shoes resembling like a robot feels but, the toe’s articulations appeared to be very limited than the old one. The Hopper Spikes are exactly the same, atleast for me.
However, the Renewal’s shoes got no sculpted soles & no heels, while the old one had & they looks much more meticulously made…
Oh, God… I almost can’t tell the difference at all but, the Renewal one got more shiny & cleaner silver paintjob than the old one. Well, that’s all that I could notice so far.
Meh, keeping the old fashioned joints to the Renewal as well, huh? Can’t believe it they uses the same joints on the shoulder pad, I thought it would be different….
Their articulations almost works the same, except that the Renewal one got a limit since he couldn’t bend up/down/to the side his neck higher/deeper than the Old one. The Renewal’s waist couldn’t bend to the side more than the Old one but, both are even when stretching up their waist to back. Also, the old one could swivel the waist farther than the Renewal one. So, the winner is ShadowMoon Old!!
Both version’s arms & hands articulations also works the same… I can still recreate my favorite pose of Crossed Arms since both has upper bicep joints on the shoulder which allow us to twist their arms, so both versions wins!! ShadowMoon Renewal is given with butterfly joints on his shoulder so we can cross his shoulder. However… Although, the old ones got no butterfly joints, we can still recreate close hug arms easily. So, I think both Version wins!!
The Renewal’s shoulder joints can raise his arms to the side higher than the old one did. Other than that, they worked perfectly the same except that there’s a limited movements on Renewal’s toes. With this overall articulations, we can do alot of dynamic or even extreme pose on him. What I dislike that both version’s silver bands on the elbow are in the way to bend his elbow joints… For sure, they didn’t fix this one on the Renewal one. Meh, Looking on both of them got their own limited in certain part, made me can’t judge which one is the better one…
Comparing to the original ones, I can’t really say the Renewal catch the whole image of the real ShadowMoon. Because, there’s a slight inaccuracy on his helmet. It’s just a minor misspaint on his mouth/jaw/nose which is still silver than the Original one & his new antenna mold. On the contrary, the old one got more faithful antenna mold but, lacked the painting on his mouth which was painted dark silver, his eyes are brighter & smaller than the Renewal one. Other than that, Renewal’s bulky chest & waist made him wins.
Once again, a little repaint could do the job to make him atleast accurate to the show. But…
Yes, I did mentioned the Renewal’s neck was a little too short & small than the original & even the old one. Ironic that the old one’s neck was made close to the original one. If you take a good look, Renewal’s collar armor got larger hole, I think this is what made his neck looks small. This is why, I can’t say Renewal catch the whole image of the real life one.
OUCH!! I can’t remember which one is the Renewal or the Old ones… Let me know if you can tell the difference… They’re tooo Identical for me, I’m just glad my Renewal ones got repaint treatment.
ShadowMoon’s only bike was only his stolen Battle Hopper from BLACK. And of course, I also provide the comparison photos Renewal between Old. Both looked good but, old one seems smaller because of the smaller side shoulder.
This was actually good enough, atleast to those who didn’t managed to get the old one would be very happy to get this. But, for me… This is more like a mixed between upgrade & downgrade, eversince I’ve spotted so many flaws on this. So, I’m not quite happy with this because, I had the old one… As for recommendations, if you didn’t have your own ShadowMoon figure, then this is still your good choice because it got slightly faithful looks compare the old one. However, if you got the old one & satisfied with it, I don’t recommend you much on getting this unless you’re an avid fan of BLACK series like me or you’d prefer the Renewal one better. I can’t really tell this will be a big sells or not but, I have no intention anymore on getting more Renewal release. This ShadowMoon would be my last owned SHF Renewal series. Of course, no Saban’s Masked Rider US counterpart release so far, the US release only included with Bluefin’s stickers while the box remains ShadowMoon.
- Improvements on the helmet, chest, & waist sculpt work.
- Butterfly joints works easier than the old one.
- The new shoulder articulations works better than the old one.
- Almost captured the real life.
- Minor incomplete paintjob.
- Minor downgrade on several part like toes, neck, & antennas.
- Unimprovements on the elbow bands, shoulder pad joints, & Twin Sabers.
- Almost no different between the old one.
- Limited movements on the waist.
- Paintjob was too fragile than the old one, I’ve experienced some paint scratch because of moving his thighs.
- All accessories are exactly the same between the old one.
- Changing hand parts is still a complete pain.
Small Parts: 3/5
Accuracy sculpt: 4/5
Uh, why was this sounds too early? Oh, well… Let’s jump back to several times ago.
Man, he really obsessed to kill BLACK, huh?
What the… Why there’s RX Bio?!
Wow, an easy win to ShadowMoon!!
Now RX Robo is here, what in the world is happening that 1 character was separated?!

That’s harsh, man….

Come to think of it, yeah… In Kamen Rider BLACK’s opening, his footsteps sounds like a rubber.
