Still another late review of SHF figures, & it’s another Dragon Ball Z character named Vegetto!! Vegetto is the immensely powerful result of the fusion between Son Gokou and Vegeta by the use of the Potara Earrings. His voice is a dual voice that contains both Goku’s and Vegeta’s voices. Vegetto is regarded most for his immense power and speed, and is the most powerful character in the Dragon Ball Z saga (not counting Super or GT because I never want to consider them as sequel). However, this is more than enough to filled my childhood because of his awesomeness & he’s the most powerful anime character ever!! Okay, to the review Vegetto’s box design is simillar to Goku Normal but, he has bigger box due to his backward spiky hair & it was colored dark blue & orange resembling Vegetto’s outfit, more colorful than Gokou indeed. SHF Vegetto is another exclusive release from Bandai so, he was included with that silly brown box. I can understand for this because Vegetto is one of the shortest character ever to make an appearance compare to the other fusee character like Gotenks or Kibitoshin. & Like Goku, Vegetto was also included with lots of accessories that is fitting to his portrayal in the anime.
We got lifeless Ki Blade FX, 2 pair of hand accessories with extra 1, Super Saiya-jin hair & 4 variant faceplates.
Vegetto is a mixture of both Goku and Vegeta’s characteristics. He is about the same height as Goku, his outfit is resembles to Goku himself but, contrast to Goku, Vegetto’s undershirt was orange while his gi was dark blue but, there are some Vegeta’s unique accessories as well such as his gloves & white boots with dark yellow tip on the toe. However, Vegetto’s main trademark are his potara earrings that marks him as a fusee character. With Goku’s body building so, he gets Goku’s old fashioned body which got the old styled joints & looks. Although, it has the same features as Goku’s body but, I have to say this body feels so obsolete compare to the latest made like Shinkocchou Seihou or even that Awakening Son Gokou. Frankly, I’m getting tired with this body because there’s alot of flaws like I mentioned on my Son Gokou Normal review. This body shows no improvements from Bandai, they’re too lazy to create new body for Vegetto. This version of Vegetto is based from his DBZ anime counterpart, the box even stated “from the anime”.
Vegetto’s hair is more inclined toward Vegeta, it firmly stands upwards but, he has two bangs sticking out like a downward “V” shape, a trait caught from Goku. His face also a mix between Goku & Vegeta as well, he was included 5 faceplates in total. Vegetto’s normal form has 2 faceplates, 1st is a standard serious face which already attached to his normal hair & body from the box. 2nd was like yelling expression with eyes looking to the left, this is meant to recreate his famous scene where he first make an appearance saying “YOSHA!!”/”ALRIGHT!!”, most notably in the manga. Vegetto was included with alternate Super Saiya-Jin hair to recreate Super Vegetto, in this form he has 3 variant faceplates. 1st one would be his standard serious face, 2nd was his smile expression with his eyes looking to the right to recreate Vegetto’s cockiness that is a trait of Vegeta, & 3rd was his yelling/shouting expression to create his battle/fight scenes more intense. Unlike the normal yelling expression one, the SSJ one showed his eyes looking towards to the front & his mouth was shown more serious compare to the normal one which shows a little smirk. In overall, Vegetto got sharper eyes than Goku but, slightly mild than Vegeta due to a mix with Goku, he doesn’t have any faceplate that shows Goku’s cheerful & easygoing nature. Still, these faceplates are more than enough to recreate Vegetto’s most scenes in the show/manga however, some of my Vegetto’s faceplates are a little mess but, it’s tolerable enough so far. & all of his faceplates has his potara earrings molded on part of his ears & painted silver with yellow. His SSJ haired part is a recolor of his normal haired part, because everything on the spiky hair looks the same. Of course, in the show/manga Vegetto’s hair style in SSJ form doesn’t show any differences from his normal form except the coloring. His SSJ hair was a plain yellow mold, there’s no shade or anything painted from it.
Vegetto actually looks faithful enough to the show, the coloring of his outfit also looks accurate enough to his anime counterpart especially, the normal haired one. However, the only flaw to me, that his SSJ faceplates got no black outline details on his eyebrows. In the anime or even in the manga, most of DBZ characters in SSJ form, they got black colored outline to show the differences between the eyebrows & the skin. In this SHF figure, SSJ Vegetto’s yellow eyebrow color seemed to be faded due to the light skin color problem, it’s like he doesn’t have eyebrows somehow. & you can see how ugly the SHF version comparing the original manga which got the expressions & details more intense!!
Good thing that Vegetto’s hair didn’t have any spikes that only stand the other side like Goku Normal did so, in every angle Vegetto looks perfectly fine. In overall proportion, Vegetto got the exact body mold of Goku, there are no major differences regarding his joint style or sculpting. Everything looks exactly the same like Goku except, Vegetto got the inverted version of Goku’s gi with the colors of the gi and undershirt reversed. The inversion is caused by adopting the color of Vegeta’s outfit for the external wear, and using the orange of Goku’s gi for the undershirt. & he got white gloves and boots in the same style as Vegeta. But, funny that his obi belt remains the same color as Goku’s & the odd one is in some anime scenes of the show, Vegetto’s obi somehow changed to be lighter color than it was to be dark blue. I think it’d be better to be lighter blue or orange or maybe black because, the obi belt doesn’t looked very prominent as they’re same color with the gi, it’s like the obi belt was a molded part of his gi. Most of his gi colors are plain blue mold but, there’s a slight dark shade on the back of the upper gi, while his decolletage was painted flesh color & orange as his undershirt. & interestingly, his gloves & boots got white cyan-ish shade. One thing that made me pissed that making Vegetto’s standing tooked like forever because he easily falls down because of his feet cannot stand the ground properly.
To be honest, I’m going to skip this one out, because this feels like handling another SHF Goku.
Vegetto was included with a lifeless Ki Blade FX part, it is a blade-shaped energy wave technique. Unlike Kamehameha FX parts, Ki Blade is a single part but, the part is attachable to both Vegetto’s hand & stage act vol. 04. On the middle of the blade there’s a peg hole to be inserted on stage act vol. 04 & to recreate Vegetto uses it, you need to use his chopping hand part (which he only got 1) to attach it into the bottom’s peg hole. Well, these Ki Blade FX wasn’t a big burden for Vegetto to hold it since his arms can maintain the weight without the need of stage act but, I guess Bandai was trying to anticipate the part from falling. Also, you might wanna becareful using this junk part because it’s awfully sharp.
Vegetto was included with fistful hands as his default hand parts, the extras are 1 chop style hand for Ki Blade scenes, 2 open splayed hands for recreating scenes like Final Kamehameha or even his Ki Blast, & open wide finger hands for like shooting alternate way of Ki Blast or many other purposes. Vegetto’s hands got slight different sculpt work compare to Goku as he’s wearing Vegeta’s gloves, which he got no finger lines or even fingernails however, it’s funny that his open splayed hands got fingernails, it’s like a recolor of Goku’s open splayed hands. With these hands, we can recreate various action scenes of Vegetto, such as performing his attacks & since he got a move called Final Kamehameha, we can use Goku Normal’s lifeless Kamehameha FX part for his 2 open splayed hands. He’s also given with crossed arms pose, to recreate how cocky he is when toying his opponent during the fight. Most notably when fighting Evil Buu Gohan Absorbed, Vegetto proves that he didn’t even need his hands to fight that powerful Buu that outclassess Vegetto’s previous life as Son Gokou & Vegeta even the Ultimate Gohan. Well, I don’t actually need this part because I could recreate that crossed arms pose without this, & I don’t know if it’s just me but, the gloves of his right wrist got overshaded cyan to green-ish….
Since Vegetto’s body was a reused of Goku’s body, they both looked simillar in height comparison. However, I don’t know if it’s my eyes but, Vegetto’s head & face looks slightly smaller than Goku.
Another thing to surprise me, I realized Vegetto’s open splayed hand’s hole got flesh color like SHF Goku’s open splayed hands, I assumed this open splayed hands of Vegetto got the exact color of Goku’s open splayed hands but, they’re painted white. I actually felt abit different when I touch them too… His open splayed hands felt abit glossy while the other hands felt doff.
The same like Goku, Vegetto’s US release are given with Funimation’s logo, representing the US dub of the show & purple Toei logo with silver sticker paper. On the bottom of the box, there’s a Bluefin’s sticker, an official Bandai US distributor.
Vegetto also got his own bootleg version made by an unknown Chinese manufacturer, It’s not Datong I guess… Datong usually comes with their funny looking Chinese font design box while this is not. Like other bootleg figures was sold, the price of this thing was also tagged to be super cheap. Photos were taken from AliExpress & the differences I found:
- The box was identical to the genuine one minus Bandai & Tamashii Nation logo or even Toei sticker & pressumably it doesn’t comes with brown case.
- Inside blister the figure comes with a very messy packaging.
- Paintjob was shown a bit darker than the original & it’s pretty messy on some areas but, funny that his faceplates looks legit somehow.
This Bootleg… Was kinda confused me, all I see are from photos not, directly look on it… So, I can’t really tell how does the figure works compare to the original. Let me know if you spot any other differences & I’ll gladly update this review with you being credited.
Overall, what makes Vegetto’s special is only because of his head, FX & Vegeta’s gloves & boots. But, even so he’s still a recycled figure from the existing release like most Goku releases, since he got the obsolete styled body. So, like Goku, Vegetto’s accessories is the only one that made me like this figure but, the body was super ugly… Bandai actually need to trash this body away, he is more like another Goku clone instead of Vegetto. Still, if you’re an avid fan of Dragon Ball series or even Vegetto himself, this figure is still one of the best existing Vegetto figure ever made. However, although I did a very late review of Vegetto, this figure was actually still relatively easy to find. I guess Vegetto isn’t something special & I can understand that, because there’s alot of uninteresting things from him. But, I can’t really tell much in the future, because I have to admit DBZ series hype was so popular to worldwide so, Vegetto may get rare & overpriced someday or maybe not. But honestly, I don’t really hyped on DB anime series because I hate watching the anime which got too much useless filler & the timing of the battle scenes are so damn boring to wait. Rather, I liked DB because I used to read the manga & I love it so much. My next SHF DBZ review would be Ultimate Gohan & he may become my last SHF anime review, since I nolonger collecting SHF figures.
