Hey, what’s up? My review today is going to be discussing 2 famous figure/toy line for most collectors, I give you Figma Archetype-She Flesh Ver. And S.H.Figuarts Body-Chan Pale Orange Color Ver.!! Yeah, I’m reviewing 2 different toy line in 1 review!! As you may know, Figma is a Japanese action figure line produced by Max Factory and distributed by Good Smile Company. The toyline debuted in 2008, from Figma Nagato Yuki from Haruhi series, many of the figures are based on anime characters, and are available with various accessories, such as exchangeable faces & wrists. When Figma became popular, GSC tends to produced other series like real life person, kamen rider, video game character, table museum & Marvel heroes series. While S.H.Figuarts also a Japanese action figure line but, made by Bandai. They also debuted their first product in 2008 which is S.H.Figuarts Masked Rider 1 from Kamen Rider: THE NEXT series, SHF major products are focussing Tokusatsu series like Kamen Rider, Super Sentai & Metal Heroes series but, as the line became popular they also grow to recreate other series like anime, US heroes & even real life person. Both line targeted towards the adult fans of the series with it’s higher price and show-accurate detailing of the figurines. Lol, they’re now became too overpriced for 1/12 figures if you asked me! Currently, both of these line appeared to be competing each other in most of their products as they produced many same franchise characters. Both of them got their own pros & cons for sure but, now I’m going to start the review. Unlike most Figmas I owned, Figma Archetype-She was packaged into blister card styled, I don’t really mind as long as the figure is safe. While SHF still keeping the box package style but, Body-Chan has smaller & has low quality of paper which appeared to be easily damaged or dented, however I have to admit the box design of Body-Chan is more interesting to look at. Funny thing, many of my Figma figures has round seal but, Archetype-She appeared to be given with plain tape. This is ironic while SHF figures which they usually sealed with plain cheap tape but, Body-Chan is given with large circular seal. Well, who cares… Let’s take a look inside then!
Archetype-She are included with 1 stand display & 3 pair of hands, while Body-Chan has 4 pair of hands. Wow… Figma still rich in accessories wise! Due to the Orange Pale Color Ver., Body-Chan is low on accessories but, it’ll be a different story if she got the exact accessories like her Gray Color Ver.
Only in SHF, Body-Chan is given with book guide for the figure how they works from articulations & for art purposes. The pages mostly shown the tutorial of drawing pictures using this figures, seems like you’ll have to reedit the photos using software applications like Adobe Photoshop or any other graphic designer software to remove the joints. Then you’ll just need to use the photo for your drawing reference without the need to draw from scratch. Well, I already did this long long long time ago when drawing my comics using my own figures so, this kind of tutorial are not that necessary for me but, if you’re new in this then this should be able to help you. The last 2 pages shows the types of Body series from Body-Kun & Body-Chan in their respective versions.
Both Archetype-She & Body-Chan are only made plain naked like figure with faceless & bald head, they are meant for art & posing purposes & because of the different company they got different skin color & texture. Figma mostly got standard light doff colored skin while SHF tends to be glossy & least shiny. They are mostly made from PVC & ABS plastic materials, SHF got 30 points of articulations while figma got 25 points, well… SHF seems to be more superior in movements & she got more humanoid accurate than Figma I see… But, I’m not going to say SHF is the best, no! Both of them got their own pros & cons.
Both figure’s faces was unpainted & they’re all bald but, I’m liking that they didn’t miss on sculpting the face shape from their nose, ears & eyes. It’s like we can just paint their face we wish to be. Archetype-She got smaller head & got more anime-ish face details than SHF, I love how they sculpted her eye shape. But, I don’t understand why Figma one has a removable face feature while she’s not given any faceplates to use, & I was unlucky to have her head cut cannot properly attached. Also, that visible joints on the back neck really turned me down, if only the back head was a little larger covering those joints, I would approve this to say perfection. Body-Chan’s head however, was made smoothly without any cut or removable face feature but, I don’t really like how her eyes was shaped that way… Well, it was meant for anime shaped eyes which got large eyes but, they didn’t looked good in real plain. In the very 1st page of the Body-Chan’s guide book, she originally got a cut on her heads but, Bandai fixed this in the actual products. Both heads are removable & has their own joints, SHF has ball jointed style while figma kept the peg jointed style due to this being the rerelease of the old version.
Yes, I have to agree that SHF got better proportions compare to Figma, Archetype-She’s arms are incredibly long & huge, almost as big as her torso. The sculpting of her breasts looks natural but, I don’t really like how the breasts was shaped that way, it makes her arm movements a bit limited. & I liked how they sculpted her neck decolletage, back & abs, they looked pretty shaped well. Another thing that I don’t really like that they don’t sculpt her finger feet which only appeared plain sharp feet like alien. The majority of Figma’s material are mostly hard plastic but, her hip/crotch has soft material which gives her joints a better movements. As for Body-Chan, in overall this is a better conversion for human anatomy but, not really a fan with the joint style… She looks very jointed especially the shoulder pad style & the cut on the torso below the breasts… & her belly wasn’t shaped pretty nicely but, hey!! This is a plain figure, not a realistic human body parts. Her arms & hands are much smaller than figma & her foot also doesn’t sculpted with barefeet shape, instead Body-Chan has round shaped foot like she’s wearing shoes. Good thing that she got toe articulations which Figma doesn’t have that but, it’s weird to see those screw holes. All of her material are hard plastic which gives her better sturdiness but, sad is that there’s a limitations on the articulations. As for the joints, they got their own joint style which worked differently.
They got rotateable head 360 degrees.
Both can bend down & up pretty good but, Figma has more advantage!! She can also stretch his waist to the back deeper than SHF.
We can swivel both waist 360 degrees, it won’t be good if they don’t. We can also bend their chest to the side but, once again Figma can do the pose deeper than SHF but, she looks a bit unnatural indeed…
Their elbow articulations can do the crossed arm pose but, not for Figma which the boobs are in the way to do cross her arms. Figma doesn’t have butterfly joints but, I can still make her close hug arms like SHF one. Yeah, this part SHF has better articulations on the elbow as she can bend the elbow much deeper compare to Figma.
With all these articulations, we can create many variant dynamic pose for them. Figma can raise her leg higher as well as bend her knees deeper than SHF but, figma lacks the toe articulations which SHF was given & can create the standing pose during some actions. As for the joints, I have to admit that SHF knee joints looks more hideable than Figma which the ball joint is clearly visible. Figma’s head seems to be able to tilts up & down deeper than SHF.
You can also twist both of their legs to the side like this for a certain posing.
Gymnastic split pose is very easy to do for Figma but, SHF… I was completely disappointed… I never thought SHF would appear to be limited like this… If only she can do, I’d approve this better than Figma… Because the hard material of her crotch & butt, SHF couldn’t even do a high kick pose scene… Surely, this is a huge let down for posing purposes. However, Figma’s posing to do the split is very2 nicely smooth! She’s perfect to do this pose!!
Both Figma & SHF could do the crouching & 2 kinds of sitting pose perfectly nice! But, since Figma got deeper bend on the knees, she can crouch lower than SHF.
Yeah, both Figma Archetype-she & SHF Body-Chan are only included with option hand parts to recreate the scenes more intense. Out from the box SHF was already attached with fistful hands & she’s included with extra 4 pair of hands, while Figma she’s already attached with open splayed hands & included with extra 3 pair of hands. Although SHF seems to have more hands but, the hands was sculpted pretty much the same. Which are 3 pair of different kind of open splayed hands, one pair with open wide fingers, one pair with chop styled fingers, another pair of open wide fingers but, half open (Like Figma’s default open splayed hands) & lastly another pair of fistful hands with different thumb fingers position (resembling one of Figma’s fistful hands). Yeah, right… Talk about simillarities but, I have to admit despite being look alike they still works pretty nicely for posing purposes. As for Figma, she got mostly standard hand parts like every figma shoujo has such as a pair of open splayed hands with chop styled fingers, a pair of fistful hands & another pair of hand grip. Hmm… Old but, classics still did the job’s done. The hand grip really useful to hold any stick objects. SHF hands were included separately without any holder to keep them safe while Figma still include it to keep the hands safe, The SHF one this kinda annoyed because they’re way too small & you might lost them easily.
Only in Figma line, Archetype-She was also given with her own display stand, & up to surprise me the peg hole of SHF Body-Chan’s back also fit enough to be attached into the stand’s peg joint attachment. This is actually more than enough if you want to display Body-Chan.
Eversince this is a different line SHF is given their own display stand but, sold separately… The most standard usable is called Stage Act Vol. 04, which you’ll have to buy them. You can either use with claw or without it but, since Body-Chan has a peg hole the claw is uneeded unless you’re fond with it.
COMPARISON AND HEAD SWAP
Despite being the tallest from Figma, Body-chan is slightly shorter than Saturn (probably because of the high heels) which means Both Body-Chan or Archetype-She were far shorter than either SHF Mercury or other male SHF figures. In here, we get to see how small is Body-Chan’s hands compare both Saturn or Archetype-She.
Unfortunately, head swap is possible for Saturn to Body-Chan but, because of the different head joint style & the skin color between Saturn & Body-Chan they don’t looked pleasing enough… I couldn’t able to push Saturn’s head joint more to the neck hole of Body-Chan. Yeah, I’m disappointed… Another letdown, I thought I can make a senshi’s transforming scene while they’re naked like… On the other hand, Saturn’s head is quite fittable to Archetype-She’s neck hole & their skin color is also good enough to be swapped but, the peg joints of Saturn’s head is a bit too small for Archetype-She’s neck hole. So, eventhough they looked fit but, Saturn’s head would easily pop off from Archetype-She’s neck hole. Well, they’re not meant to be swapped together due to the different companies but, a little glue-tack would be able to solve this. Figma Archetype-She’s head can be swap to other Figma’s head perfectly fine just like I did on Figma Nene. Lastly, although Saturn’s head didn’t fit to Body-Chan but, surprisingly the Styling Bulma’s head was fit enough since both got same skin color but, Styling Bulma’s head got small peg joint so, her head would easily pop off as well but, again glue-tack is your good solution.
Figma Archetype series got their own bootleg releases but, unlike the original the bootleg provides extra 2 colors which is Gray Black. The pics were taken from Ali Express & My Figure Collections by KawaiiAlice, & the differences I found so far according to my eyes (since I don’t have it):
- Hand parts holder was made from a transcluent material.
- Her coloring of the crotch/hip looks slightly lighter.
It’s hard to tell by looking it unless if I touch them but, from what I heard on most of Bootleg Figmas the qualities of the figures are crappy & definitely cheaper price than you would imagine but, I’m going to say it do not let the super cheap price seduce you!!
The impression is, this is really surprised me! I never thought they would turned out different from what I used to think. I thought SHF would dominate everything since Body-Chan has better proportions but, Figma has alot of movement range in head, waist & legs articulations. All I can suggest that, if you’re into the waist, leg posing or better head swap Figma is recommended but, if you’re into art purposes or perfectionist of the body parts SHF is your good choice!
Figma Archetype-She Flesh Ver.
- Good sculpt work & materials.
- Better movement range on the head, waist & legs (except toes).
- Pretty much enough accessories but, more is better.
- Face sculpt is better shaped & prominent enough to anime looks.
- User friendly on dealing the parts.
- Defective faceplate part with couldn’t be able to attach perfectly. I think I was unlucky but, it doesn’t matter much.
- Breasts shape problem that obstacled her arm’s movements to do the crossing arm.
- Proportions are funny from her arms being a bit too large & long.
- Funny feature of removable face part.
- That alien feets….
S.H.Figuarts Body-Chan Pale Orange Color Ver.
- Better proportioned & tight joints & more sturdiness materials.
- Better movement range on the arms, hands, & toes.
- Better art purposes.
- Option hand parts turned out better from what I expected during posing her.
- Too glossy & shiny color.
- Mediocre box quality.
- Swapping hands are even harder because of the microscopic hands.
- Hard material on her crotch/hip which obstacled her leg movements.
- Too tight joints.
- Too plain looking sculpt work.
- Weird eye shape.
- Too many screw holes on her foot, it’s just lame that the promotional pics of her shown the screw holes has a circular skin colored.
Wow!! A clash of Plain bodies!!
A Wing Chun?! Wow, SHF might win this!
Nice Attack from Figma but, SHF evade it pretty smoothly!!
Holy crap! Rapid kicks from SHF!!
SHF All the way!!
WHAT THE DEVIL?!
That’s it! Who’s the winner? Well, it’s your call….
