Back to action!! Today, I’m going back to review another SHF Super Sentai/Power Rangers, I give you the stupid worthless release of S.H.Figuarts Unmasked Green Ranger and White Ranger from Bandai Tamashii Nation! Why being worthless? I thought you gave a very positive review back in your old Dragon Ranger and KibaRanger reviews? Well, that’s the point because, these guys are exact recycled figure from those 2 with high price. Even one of them only sold exclusively in San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2018 and thanks for that I have to waste my precious money just for the nostalgia. Okay, enough for this firstly… The person behind Green Ranger and White Ranger, Thomas “Tommy” Oliver is a fictional character from the universe of the American live action television franchise Power Rangers. He is best known as being the original Green Ranger of the original Power Rangers team. He is a main character in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (MMPR) TV series, as well as four of its successive incarnations Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Turbo and Power Rangers Dino Thunder. He also appeared in the Power Rangers Wild Force episode “Forever Red”, the Power Rangers S.P.D. episode “Wormhole”, the Power Rangers Super Megaforce episode “Legendary Battle”, and in the Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel episode “Dimensions in Danger”. He has been portrayed by actor Jason David Frank in most of his appearances. These figures features Tommy Oliver/Jason David Frank exclusive head for his 2 ranger forms. Both was released in 2018 and the Unmasked Green Ranger was sold exclusively in SDCC 2018 along with the Unmasked Red Ranger which included with Jason Lee Scott/Austin St. John’s head. As you can see, the Green Ranger box has printed “Event Exclusive” while the overall box was colored green with printed every Power Rangers team background and the box was designed to have a half window for us to see Tommy Oliver’s head in his Green Ranger suit while the helmet was included as an alternate head and the inner tray paper was colored dark gold just like S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ranger’s inner tray paper. The front box was completely dominated by the large old promotional photo of SHF Dragon Ranger while the title of the figure was printed with “Saban’s Power Rangers” logo. The box also got printed “25 years you’ve got the power” with the artwork of Red Ranger doing a jump kick. Now, the Japanese font is written “グリーンレンジャー” or reads “Green Ranger”. The back box was overally colored black and white, in black we get to see several photos of old SHF Dragon Ranger promotional photos and the large photo of Unmasked Green Ranger, green printed font of SHF figures introduction and black and white “warning” print, while the white part only featured with warning print and “Blue Fin Distribution” logo. And the Unmasked White Ranger was actually a regular release but, the pre-order only opens in certain countries as there’s no local pre-order of this in my country but, aside of that the figure was also sold early in New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2018. You can see the White Ranger box doesn’t have “Event Exclusive” print but, there’s a “Tamashii Nation Quality” sticker on it. The box also designed simillar like Green Ranger one except the Bandai logo is now light blue colored instead of red and of course the Japanese font also written “ホワイトレンジャー” or reads “White Ranger”. Both figures was released to celebrate Power Rangers 25th anniversary and I got them both autographed by Jason David Frank now, time to unbox these 2!
Green Ranger comes with Green Ranger helmet, Dragon Dagger and 3 pair of alternate hands. Well, I have to say this is even worse than the US Market Ver. but….
While White Ranger comes with White Ranger helmet, Saba sword with alternate extended blade and 2 pair of alternate hands. Well, this is alot better than even KibaRanger one except the price is still too much.
According to the character’s history, Tommy is a legend among the Power Rangers community and is considered to be the greatest Power Ranger of all time, having been five different Ranger forms but, his very first ranger form is the Green Ranger. In Green Ranger form he dons green spandex with a diamond shaped white motives on his upper body, white colored neck collar, white belt with Dino Buckler, boots, and gloves. Each boots and gloves has a golden colored lines and the motives are a long shaped triangle. He also dons his trademark Dragon Shield, the armor is comprised of a golden armor and two golden armbands and there’s also a black colored Dragon Dagger’s holster. Well… This is actually the same body of SHF Dragon Ranger except the default head is Tommy’s head but, one thing I don’t like from this figure is the weird circular on his butt appeared to have darker color compared to the rest of his body. In actual MMPR show, Tommy’s Green Ranger suit is completely different whenever he’s unmasked. His original suit prop had a different designed boots and gloves and the long shaped triangle motives was colored dark green. His original Dragon Shield prop was actually made from a cheap fabric instead of hard foam like in Zyuranger, thus making it look very cheap and the shield changed without reason during action scenes. Of course, because they used Zyuranger’s footage and his holster also sometimes changed from black into white as well as he has his own Blade Blaster instead of Dragon Dagger. Lastly, I just noticed that the Dragon Dagger’s US prop appeared far different from it’s Sentai counterpart (Zyusouken) but, the prop was actually less to be seen in the real MMPR scenes. However, it can be note that at that time the production of MMPR was still low on budget.
White Ranger is Tommy’s secondary form and it was created from the White Light of Good, it would be impossible for the darkness to control him. Tommy was the perfect candidate to take on the powers for his bravery and determination from his old Ranger days. In this form, he’s wearing white pearl-ish colored outfit overally. His trademark armor is comprised of a shiny golden chestplate with matte black coloring and 4 black and golden wrist bands on his respective arms and legs as well as his golden belt and Saba’s holster. Yeah, once again the same body of SHF KibaRanger except the default head is Tommy’s head which was done with different hairstyle. Comparing the design between the show is almost pretty resembles except the original shield prop was done longer that almost covers his belly entirely than the original. Since both figures got the same body of SHF Dragon Ranger and KibaRanger so, I’m going to skip on how the articulation works. This review is going to be focussing mainly on Tommy’s heads with his other accessories and of course… Comparison between the original release.
…. I’m gonna be honest… Tommy Green Ranger’s face look really ugly, everything doesn’t feel right on this head… I can clearly tell the face printing location by that dots from Bandai did, what’s worse is several area of his side face was left unpainted and his hair looks like a very cheap toy. His mouth/lips was painted like a duck lips style and this is freakishly awkward… And his face was like he has a face swelling but, atleast his eyes actually resembles alot to Tommy/JDF. His hair was painted simply dark brown while his front hair is tied to the back showing his forehead and ponytail and the head was done with a hard plastic material but, the ponytail seems really fragile. Interestingly, they didn’t forget about Tommy’s wearing pearl white earring on his left ear. This Tommy’s head is the good version of him which was shown in near end of 1st and half 2nd seasons of MMPR as the Green Ranger. Because of this, the figure does not included with Sword of Darkness. Tommy’s head also movable and works pretty much the same as SHF Dragon Ranger. The figure also included with Green Ranger helmet, you can either use it for Tommy wearing his helmet or make Tommy holding it. Yeah, right it is the same SHF Dragon Ranger’s helmet!
…. The same goes to his White Ranger’s face also looking really ugly but, I gotta admit the face was printed slightly better than Green one especially on the lip. But, I just can’t stand by that dots from the face printing. But, what’s worse is his eyes doesn’t look like Tommy/JDF at all. More like suit actor or cosplayer or something, his hair was also painted simply dark brown and his front hair is tied to the back showing his forehead and ponytail but, the hair was sculpted longer than the Green one and got 2 side bangs for front shoulders. Tommy does indeed use this hairstyle in the near end 2nd until half of Zeo seasons. But, that side layer cut on his hair made him like Tommy is wearing a bandana… Just like the Green one, the head also was done with a hard plastic material but, the long side bangs seems really fragile as well and they also made Tommy’s wearing pearl white earring on his left ear. Tommy’s head also movable and works pretty much the same but, his hard plastic long hair and bangs was a real bother since they limit his head movements. I’m not gonna push myself on this because he’s not a cheap figure. The figure also included with White Ranger helmet, you can either use it for Tommy wearing his helmet or make Tommy holding it. Once again it is the same SHF Kibaranger’s helmet! Lastly, all Tommy’s skin color is pale orange and his expression on both form is shown to be either serious/calm with closed mouth but, Bandai was only trying to make a standard expression for him like every figures they did.
Oh, right… The Dragon Dagger is the personal weapon of the Green Ranger. It is used to summon and control the Dragonzord by playing it like a flute. Well, it’s actually a recycled Zyusouken’s accessory from Dragon Ranger. It has the same sculpt and paintjob and can be either holstered or grab it or make a flute play pose with Green Ranger’s hands.
White Ranger’s only weapon is none other than his Saba. It is an enchanted shortsword wielded by Tommy Oliver, the White Ranger. He had the ability to talk, project energy blasts from his eyes, and can fly. Saba also controlled the White Tigerzord, and inserting him into the control panel of the Zord allowed him to change into warrior mode. Again, it’s another recycled Byakkoshinken’s accessory from KibaRanger. It has the same sculpt and paintjob and can be either holstered or grab it with White Ranger’s right grasping hand. Saba… Sounds really lame, ugh….
Green Ranger comes up with 8 option hand parts in total. Out from the box, Green Ranger has his fistful hands attached on both wrists. The alternate are a pair of Dragon Dagger flute play hands with different finger gestures, grasping hands for Dragon Dagger and a pair of semi open splayed hands for holding his helmet. The Dragon Dagger flute play hands are the same hands like SHF Dragon Ranger but, his grasping hand was sculpted a bit different but, they still used for holding the Dragon Dagger. Frankly, I’m not gonna use it because, the Dagger’s black paint would leave a paint transfer to his hands and to know how overpriced this figure I don’t want to ruin them. Instead I used my old Dragon Ranger’s hands for him. Semi open splayed hands was specially made for this Green Ranger since Dragon Ranger didn’t have alternate Burai head so, he didn’t come with that hands. The hands looks very simillar to one of SHF Mammoth Ranger’s hand which use for holding his Mothbreaker.
White Ranger comes up with 6 option hand parts in total. Out from the box, White Ranger also has his fistful hands attached on both wrists. The extras are 1 grasping right hand for holding Saba and 1 open splayed left hand for a certain battle pose and a pair of semi open splayed hands for holding his helmet. 1 grasping right hand for holding Saba and 1 open splayed left hand are also the same hands like SHF KibaRanger and like the Green Ranger, semi open splayed hands was specially made for this White Ranger since KibaRanger didn’t have alternate Kou Koshinsei head so, he didn’t come with that hands.
Both Green Ranger and White Ranger almost stands equally but, Green Ranger still a tiny bit higher but, it’s very unnoticeable to see from distance so, I’ll take it both stands pretty much the same. Which is…
Comparing Green Ranger between Dragon Ranger, they stands pretty much the same. It’s a definite same body afterall but, the Green Ranger tends to have darker color than Dragon Ranger one. You can check my SHF Dragon Ranger review in here.
White Ranger is now made to be slightly taller than KibaRanger, I guess Bandai listened the complain afterall of the slight shortness appearance of KibaRanger’s US Market Ver. but, for me their difference are still unnoticeable unless you want to take a closer look or make them both stand together side by side. Aside of that the pearl white also made to be different, the White Ranger tends to have slightly yellowish pearl white while KibaRanger is complete clean pearl white. The golden color on White Ranger had lighter tone compared to KibaRanger one. Other than that, they looked the same except the chestplate piece of White Ranger cannot be taken off. Therefore we cannot swap it with A-KibaRanger’s armor plate. You can check my SHF KibaRanger review in here.
Green Ranger’s helmet joint was permanently attached to his neck joint for swapping between Tommy’s head while the Dragon Ranger’s neck joint was permanently attached under his helmet in order to swap the neck piece of bonus Akibaranger part. So, these figures were done for different purpose so, we can’t attach Tommy’s head into Dragon Ranger’s body.
The hands between Green Ranger and Dragon Ranger was done in the same white color but, the sculpt grasping hands of Green Ranger is different compared to both Dragon Ranger’s grasping hands of holding The Devil Sword of Hellfriede and Zyusouken. Left is Green Ranger’s grasping hand (last picture below) the rests are Dragon Ranger’s hands. But, who cares about their differences since they still used for the same purpose.
Despite having the exact same mold of KibaRanger’s hands, White Ranger’s hands also colored yellowish than KibaRanger one but, the color differences are not that noticeable.
Well, I didn’t noticed this at all before but, after I take a good look the painting of Dragon Dagger between Zyusouken are a bit different as well. Dragon Dagger seems to have less detailings compared to Zyusouken but, I’m not gonna point out which missing part instead I’ll let you check by yourself.
The same goes to Saba between Byakkoshinken but, Saba one is more noticeable on it’s head and there are several other missing detailings as well. Again, I’m not gonna point which one but, I’ll let you find by yourself.
You can also make a headswap between Tommy’s Green Ranger head into his White Ranger body the same goes to Tommy’s White Ranger head into Green Ranger body. And since KibaRanger shares the same neck joint with White Ranger, I can attach Tommy’s head into KibaRanger’s body.
With a little effort I can make Tommy using Dragon Ranger’s Powerful Ranger parts, to do this neck swap you’ll need to remove the Green Ranger’s neck joint using hair dryer or hot water and attach it into Powerful Ranger’s neck part. This appearance doesn’t even exist and had nothing to do in Power Rangers universe, since Sentai World didn’t relate to it. The American flag was meant to create a joke for Power Rangers which most people especially fanboys mistakenly thought Power Rangers were originally made in America. Pretty sure, no one’s gonna like this but, I made this just for fun lol.
Contrast to Green Ranger, this swap cost no effort at all. Thanks to the compatible neck joint from White Ranger, we can attach Tommy’s head on KibaRanger’s body and we can also make unmasked version of A-KibaRanger by swapping KibaRanger’s chestplate. Like Green Ranger, this custom has nothing to do with Tommy but, I just made this for fun.
If you’re not happy with Green Ranger’s little accessories you can just use your old SHF Dragon Ranger or the US Market Ver.’s accessories such as The Devil Sword of Hellfriede to recreate Tommý’s The Sword of Darkness and several other hands that aren’t included in the Unmasked Green Ranger.
Overall, not really happy with the Tommy’s heads but, still slightly better having extra head than just one helmet. Atleast, the only thing I’m grateful for this figures. Talk about likeness, this is a very bad choice to collect it’s like they did it with zero intention since everything seems off from the heads. What’s worse their price is no different from the original release on these day which they already skyrocketed alot. I say do not buy this figure, unless you’re an MMPR fanboys so, help yourself.

Umm… You are indeed officially the one who started the 6th ranger team but, you’re not the first.
Have to admit yes! Dragon Ranger is alot stronger than KibaRanger!
Ow, so much confident you’ve got, KibaRanger.
That’s gotta leaves a deep scar indeed….
YES!! Finally got them all signed by the respective actors who played the role!!
